The City of Cotati has partnered with Backflow Solutions, Inc (BSI) to assist in with State required cross-connection/backflow tracking regulations, including sending notifications and managing required data on behalf of the City.
To become a certified tester for the City of Cotati you must register with BSI. The registration process will include providing proof of your certifications, test kit calibration certificates, and proof of valid City of Cotati Business license.
Device Replacement Standards
The standards for new or replacement devices are set forth in the Cities engineering design standards and summarized below:
XIII. BACKFLOW PREVENTION ASSEMBLIES
- Backflow prevention assemblies are required to be designed in accordance with State of California Title 17 and City of Cotati Ordinance.
- All backflow prevention assemblies must be listed on the latest revision of the approved USC Foundation for Cross-Connection Control and Hydraulic Research list. Additionally lists of approved backflow prevention devices may be obtained by consultants from the California Department of Public Health, see the following web-site http://www.cdph.ca.gov/certlic/drinkingwater/Pages/Publications.aspx
- Design backflow prevention assemblies as near as possible to the water meter as shown on Details STD-875, STD-876, STD-879, and STD-880.
- Backflow preventers will be designed in accordance with Attachment 1. For uses not listed contact Public Works Utilities or Water Quality.
