PROCLAMATION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COTATI PROCLAMING THE MONTH OF MARCH 2024 AS WOMEN'S HISTORY MONTH IN THE CITY OF COTATI
WHEREAS, women have played a critical role in shaping the economic, cultural, and social fabric of our society through their participation in the labor force, working both inside and outside the home, in leadership positions, and through creative inspiration; and
WHEREAS, National Women's History Month provides an opportunity for schools and communities to increase the knowledge held by our children and our community of women's roles in history and their contributions to the development of this nation; and
WHEREAS, the story of American women is the story of women of all ages, races and cultural backgrounds who led campaigns for equality and civil rights, advanced professional and educational opportunities, founded entirely new enterprises, and contributed significantly to the arts, sciences and humanistic causes; and
WHEREAS, women from every background have long realized that an uneven playing field will never bring equality or justice and as members of families, civic and community groups businesses and legislative bodies, women are in the forefront of reevaluating the status quo; and
WHEREAS, the 2024 theme for National Women's History Month is "Women Who Advocate for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion", which directly recognizes the women throughout the country who understand that, for a positive future, we need to eliminate bias and discrimination entirely for our lives and institutions; and
WHEREAS, National Women's History Month is both a call to acknowledge outstanding women we know by name and to pay homage to the nameless women who shared our collective past.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED on this day of March 12, 2024, by the City Council of the City of Cotati, in recognition of the significant role played by women, whose courage and vision inspire hope and possibility for today's women to make tomorrow's history, hereby proclaims the month of March 2024 as Women's History Month in the City of Cotati.
